We have a dream

Bill and Tom Kaulitz from Tokio Hotel dream since schooltime from breakout and freedom: The Twins from Magdeburg against the rest of the world.

Bill and Tom Kaulitz are one-egg twins and make music together since their childdays. In 2005 they got their breakthrough. Their Band Tokio Hotel counts in the most succesfull german new discoveries of the last years.

Tom: Untill the age of 6 years we walked completely the same around. We both had really short hair and wore Suspenders
Bill: When I watch to child pictures, I can’t see the difference between us. Before that we also wore Pullovers, at one was »Bill« and the other was »Tom- with that everyone could see the difference. When we went to school we also still looked the same.
Tom: But we had schoolbags in different colours. I believe, at that time you wore a lot of red things. And I more blue and black.At that time we already had our first relationships, who man has with six. But there wasn’t a girl who was in love with us both. The girls have seen the difference already forever.
Bill: Well, we had one time the same girl.
Tom: But that wasn’t at the same time though, after eachother.
Bill: At one night we even had the same dream. That only happened once until now.
Tom: Yes. That was a nightmare. We had at that time such a weird car-accident.
Bill: ...such a Basket, where our toys were in.
Tom: And they always made a weird noice at night. We were extremely scared of that.
Bill: We thought someone was behind it.
Bill: The longest time we were apart…
Tom: … That were at maximum 2 weeks. Bill was in the hospital, because of a operation. We don’t make it long without eachother, totally not. We both yield a complete, a human. Totally. It’s true that we in a lot of things – how we are, how we articulate, how we look – are very different. But it fills. I know what Bill feels and Bill knows what I feel. We have often different oppinions – we make it up.
Bill: Nobody is allowed to mix in it. What is between us, we’ll make it up with eachother, and then it’s always: We together against the rest of the world.
Tom: In the 2nd grade we started with Music. Bill started to sing. Mostly Nena. Our step dead let us use his instruments, and I started playing guitar. From that moment we wanted to be rockstars.
Bill: The people watched us weird. But we always decided everything alone. We were always on our own . Also just because we had everything opposite.
Tom: We lived for a long time in Magdeburg and than moved to a Village. But Magdeburg was already to small for us.
Bill: That was kinda Alien-time for us. We just were watched. And the school was Horror. That was the most stupid time of our lives. It was this way: have a mad end, get mad out of there(??). The most stupid thing in our twinsbeing was for us when we were separated in the 7th grade as a punishment. The teacher told: We can’t work together.
Tom: In the weekends we performed in clubs. Sometimes for no money, sometimes for €100.
Bill: We always said: It’ll happen sometime. Just a time some producer will walk to us.
Tom: The only thing, what you can do is perform. Perform and have luck. We just had luck.
Tom: We went every weekend to the studio and always believed in it.
Bill: We always thought: “Please get us out of here. Let it end.”
Tom: And suddently our video was played every hour at VIVA. And we were at home in front of the tv and told: “Nice! Nice, look, it’s played already again!
Bill: And in the beginning we taped it always.
Tom: That our texts have to do with breakouts and freedom, I believe, It’s from the school-period, because we always had the wish to get out. We thought we stood alone with our dreams .
